After an interview, Jack Kerouac reads his reason for writing while accompanied by pianist Steve Allen.
-
This is a few minutes edited from the original 112 minute documentary. Several related scenes with simple transitional titleing effects to fill it out were combined to create a short film with its own identity.
-
There's an interesting back story about what's actually being read during this presentation, and it's the reason care was taken in the way the title and description were worded.
-
Ideally, when time permits, an accurate well thought out elegant explanation should be posted detailing the reason for the compilation.
-
( Near the end of the second to last scene of the final two scenes, the last paragraph of "On The Road" is being read - verbatim - from: "So, in America [4:19] . . [ to ] . . [5:27] I think of Dean Mor-i-ar-ty." )

I recorded poet, novelist and filmmaker Sherman Alexie at Rutgers University in Newark only a few weeks after September 11, 2001. With humor and fearless candor, Alexie spoke incisively of the broader implications of the tragic event and its still fresh aftermath.

On Bill Moyers on Faith & Reason, airing Friday, July 28 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings), writers Margaret Atwood and Martin Amis show how the imagination of the creative mind can help cross the boundaries between faith and reason and to see the best and worst of human possibilities. Atwood's most famous novel, The Handmaid's Tale, depicts a democracy transformed into a theocracy of God-quoting true believers who strip women of their rights. Bill Moyers explores how these two confessed agnostics come to grips with a world immersed in belief.
For more of the interviews, and a chance to share what *you* find important on matters of Faith & Reason, visit the program's website (www.pbs.org/moyers) and watch the broadcasts on PBS.

In August 2006, the national, weekly public radio program, The Infinite Mind, made broadcast history as it aired a four-part special taped inside the 3-D virtual on-line community Second Life. Among those interviewed in front of a live, virtual audience was author Kurt Vonnegut. The 40-minute conversation with Vonnegut was the author's last sit-down interview. The host was The Infinite Mind's John Hockenberry, who was with Vonnegut in the studio where the program was created. This is a machinima video of Vonnegut's interview, taped at the 16-acre virtual broadcast center in Second Life built by Lichtenstein Creative Media, which produces The Infinite Mind.
