Will introducing Arabic literature to the Hebrew-reading public help bridge the Israeli-Arab divide? In tough cases like this, where so many solutions have failed, giving art a chance to do some magic is incredibly practical and wise. In a post from the GuardianUK book blog about Tel Aviv-based Andalus Books (segment below), the question of whether or not literature can heal this vast schism is addressed. Andalus Books “takes its inspiration from the “golden era” of intellectual thought and activity in the Iberian peninsula, a time when “Arabic and Jewish cultures fed and fertilised one another …(when) texts were translated and ideas exchanged freely from Arabic to Hebrew and vice versa”…

Israeli readers are spoilt for choice when it comes to tracking down international literature in Hebrew translation.
