The Story Prize

I went to the 3rd annual Story Prize as a guest of my mentor and friend Susan Weinberg, publisher of Public Affairs. There’s something, perhaps a recovery to childhood, about listening to a story and being taken to another place. I am reminded each year of this phenomenon at this event, how important and endangered short stories are in this era where even the most extraordinary fiction is overlooked for the market savvy non-fiction titles that give instant gratification in our over programmed heads e.g. Freakonomics and the like.

Mary Gordon won the $20,000 Story Prize for THE STORIES OF MARY GORDON.
